What it does
WebObsidian provides a browser-based and desktop application for editing a folder of Markdown files as an Obsidian-compatible knowledge base. Users can write and render notes, follow wikilinks, inspect backlinks and outlines, browse an interactive graph, search full text with fielded queries, and publish read-only note pages.
The application supports GitHub synchronization with Git LFS, per-file version history, community plugins, responsive mobile layouts, and a scoped REST API for AI agents to read, write, and search notes. It is single-user and self-hosted, with Docker Compose deployment, a Node production server, or packaged macOS, Windows, and Linux desktop installers.
