What it does

QOwnNotes is an open-source desktop notepad and todo-list manager for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows. It stores notes as plain-text Markdown files, supports multiple folders, hierarchical tags, subfolders, wiki-style links, Markdown preview, attachments, encryption, and substring search with highlighted results. Existing text or Markdown files can be used directly, and Evernote or Joplin imports are supported.

The application syncs notes through Nextcloud or ownCloud file synchronization and can also work with services such as Syncthing or Dropbox. It supports sharing through Nextcloud or ownCloud, browser capture through its Web Companion extension, and management of remote todo lists through Tasks or CalDAV servers. A portable mode, customizable interface, scripts, and optional AI integrations are also documented.
